Duo Nabbed In Connection To Murder Of Western Mass Man

Two Western Massachusetts residents have been charged with murder in the shooting death of a man who was found dead on a city street.

The arrests took place in Hampden County in Springfield and included Thania Rosado on Wednesday, June 8, and Jose Amaro on Friday, June 10.

According to the Hampden District Attorney Office’s Spokesperson Jim Leydon, both were charged with the murder of 23-year-old Chicopee resident Luis Lebron Alvelo on Monday, May 30.

Alvelo was found when Chicopee police were called to Grattan Street for a report of shots fired, police said.

When they arrived, they found Alvelo suffering from a gunshot wound. He died from his injuries at the scene, the DA's Office said.

The Chicopee police and the Massachusetts State Police quickly developed intelligence identifying two suspects in the case, Leydon said.

On Wednesday, June 8 investigators were able to develop probable cause and arrest Rosado, age 31, of Springfield, on a charge of murder, Leydon said.

Following the arrest of Rosado, detectives continued their investigation. On Friday, June 10,  located Amaro, age 38, at a residence on Loring Street in Springfield, he added.

After securing a search warrant, officers conducted a search of the residence and discovered; two handguns, ammunition with high-capacity feeding devices, and narcotics packing materials, police said.

Both suspects were booked at the Chicopee Police Department following their arrests. 

Rosado is currently held without the right to bail, and her next scheduled court date is on Friday, June 24, Leyon sai.

Amaro is currently in custody and is expected to be arraigned on Monday, June 13.
